Support BMDD’s Youth Project and have a great time doing it at the 2012 Beat the Drum Event!
Bush Mango Drum & Dance is celebrating its 23rd year of serving our community. Recognized as the Cultural Organization of the Year by the Arts and Cultural Council of Greater Rochester in 2006, Bush Mango continues to be known for excellence in providing West African drum and dance instruction to youth, families and adults of all ethnic, racial and socio-economic backgrounds.
On April 21st 2012, Bush Mango is hosting its second annual Beat the Drum Friend-Raising event at our 34 Elton Street location. Funds raised will support our Youth Project, where a diverse group of students ages two to 18 experience West African drumming and dancing in a supportive and directed way. The majority of our students are in need of financial support, with 84% percent receiving scholarship funding to attend. Youth Project students enrolled in our programming learn essential life skills that propel them into their futures and into their lives: confidence, inter-dependability, intrinsic-motivation, discipline, joy, creativity and so much more.
This program works, too. Our Youth Project graduates 90% (that isn’t a typo!) of our students to the next grade or onto graduation from High School.
If a Beat the Drum ticket is purchased after the Wongai performance, a ticket to Bush Mango’s December holiday performance will be provided.
Please come and make a difference in the lives of young people and in our community!
